So let me tell you a little bit about me …

I grew up in Southeast New England, the oldest of 4 kids. My Mom and Dad both grew up during the Great Depression and were living in Europe during all of World War II. As far back as I can remember (3 or 4 years old) my parents were always talking about how poor we were and how we didn’t have enough of anything, especially food and money. They also used to have terrible arguments about “working for other people”. My Dad owned his own business and my Mom just hated it. She hated the inconsistent income … the risks involved with the type of work he was doing … and the long hours that he worked. My Mom wanted security and stability. My Dad wanted FREEDOM. The battle raged until my Dad retired in 1975.

Why am I sharing this with you? Growing up was not easy for me and I don’t think it is all that easy for the majority of people out there. Listening to those early conversations left a huge imprint on me … how I thought about things and the choices I made for my own life. And I know that there are alot of people out there who have gone through the same thing … maybe even you.

I started working when I was 14 years old as an after school assistant at my high school library. That led to me getting a “real” part time job when I was 16. Every penny that I earned was either used to buy gas or put into my college savings account.

My parents carved it into my head – work hard, get good grades, go to college, get a good job, work REALLY hard, be loyal, honest, trustworthy, save your money, build up a great pension, and retire in style.

I was the first person in my family to go to college and I ended up going through 4 years of schooling that I paid for myself before I realized that what I majored in (Germanic and Slavic Studies) just wasn’t going to cut it for me. I wasn’t sure about what I really wanted to do. So, I did the next best thing and moved to Washington D.C.

Crashing and Burning

Washington D.C. was a great experience for me until everything went nuts. I got a really good job working for an insurance company which made my Mom very happy. I had a regular salary coming in and one of the best benefit packages available at the time. However, I really didn’t like office work and sitting in a cubicle 9 hours a day. So, on a whim, I took a cooking class and that is when I knew that I had found something I was really excited about.

One thing led to another and I started working evenings at a local restaurant after I finished working at the insurance company during the day. The man that I was living with didn’t like the changes I was making in my life. So, he decided to opt-out of the relationship and, in the process, he cleaned out my bank account and took off with everything in our apartment. The only thing that I was certain of at that time was that I loved cooking and that I wanted to be a professional chef.

I knew that I was supposed to work hard to earn a good living, but I simply had so much fun working with food that it never really seemed like work to me.

Italy … Upstate New York … Being Bi-Coastal … NYC …

I stayed in D. C. exactly long enough to regroup and replenish my savings account. I got a phone call one day from my Mom asking me to help my sister who was just about ready to give birth and was sick as a dog. The catch – my sister was living in Italy at the time. I would have to quit my job and fly over. I said yes.

I flew to Italy with every intention of returning in about 4 weeks. It was love at first sight. My family, the baby, the food, the people, the language, the history, the country – just amazing. It took me over a year to come back Stateside. And the only reason I came back then was that I finally got a start date for professional cooking school.

I graduated top of my class and I owed $20,000 on student loans.  So, instead of looking for a position as an intern at one of those ultra chic boutique restaurants apprenticing with a Master Chef and getting paid minimum wage, I looked for a position with a big corporation so that I could make enough money to pay off those loans.

Well, I found one. The job required that I work 10 days in an account in Boston and then 10 days in an account in Los Angles with three or four days off in between coasts. It was a really tough gig. It’s no fun living out of a suitcase. And, I wasn’t able to make enough money to do more than just make the minimum payment on my school loans. After a couple of years, I made the decision to work in New York City, the Culinary Capital of the World. I had acquired enough experience and had improved my skillset to the point that I knew if I could make it in New York City, I could make it anywhere in the world. I interviewed with the Marriott Marquis in Times Square and they hired me.

I spent almost 8 years at that hotel. I was a sponge and Marriott provided incredible empowerment and leadership training to all of the managers on staff. The Executive Chef of the hotel was a truly enlightened man and he pursued, taught and demanded excellence in everything. Because of him I was able to qualify for a position on the 1996 Culinary Olympics Team. We did a great job at that competition taking home numerous gold, silver and bronze medals. The only problem with all of that was that I wasn’t making enough money to pay my bills and I was going further and further into debt every month.

Crashing And Burning Once Again

I got married while I was working at the hotel. My husband was a chef too and between both of us we were doing really well financially. We were able to buy a beautiful co-op apartment just outside of the city. We also bought a couple of investment properties that were producing a small profit every month.

Little did I know that the man that I had married was an alcoholic. He started having problems at his job. One day he came home and told me that he had been put on probation until he completed 1 year in a sponsored alcohol rehab program. I was shocked beyond belief.

Who was this man? How could something like this happen without my knowing? Where had I been while all of this was going on?

This was a very, very dark time for me. I felt stupid, ashamed and betrayed. The only thing that made me feel good about myself was working. And I worked with a vengeance … 70-80 hours a week … 6-7 days a week.

My husband’s situation did not get any better. He could not pass any of the mandatory testing and got fired for breaking his probation. He got fired from job after job and drank more and more. He went into rehab a total of three times before we divorced.  I learned something very important during that time. Change only happens when a person chooses to change. As much as I wanted my husband to get well, he did not want the same thing for himself.

The physical, mental and financial abuse happening in my marriage was killing me and I needed to remove myself from that situation. So I divorced my husband.

Five years later I would have to file for bankruptcy because, after all was said and done, I was responsible for close to $500,000 in credit card and real estate debt that I simply could not pay. I could not even sell the investment properties because September 11 had devastated the economy in NYC. Bankruptcy was the only viable option available to me.

Taking Responsibility For My Mess

September 11 is the day that changed everything for many people. It was no longer life and business as usual. The economy in NYC took a nosedive. People were in shock. They were in mourning. And noone was traveling. Food and beverage sales dropped like a stone. Many high salary hotel positions were simply eliminated, mine included. I did some serious soul searching and made the decision to temporarily leave the city to find work. I ended up living at my Mom’s house and working at Foxwoods Casino. The gaming industry was thriving and people wanted to eat well while they were gambling.

To quote Dickens “It was the best of times, It was the worst of times”

My mother loves me and when I ended up on her doorstep in 2001 she was grateful that I was alive and really mad at me for the mess I was in.  “How could you let something like this happen to you?” was the one question that she asked over and over again. The fact that I couldn’t give her an answer got me asking myself some really hard questions and searching for the answers to those questions.

I knew about personal growth and self development. I had been through every training sponsored by Marriott. I had gone through the entire Landmark curriculum. I had read lots of books … Napoleon Hill to Wayne Dyer to Deepak Chopra. I decided to reread “Think and Grow Rich”. This time a floodlight went off in my head.

“What do I really want?”

I got really clear about a couple of things. I am here to serve and help as many people as I possibly can.  And I can only help other people after I help myself first.

I started thinking about opening a restaurant which would feature locally grown organic products and provide an absolutely impeccable dining experience. I also knew that having a happy, healthy, well managed, hassle-free work environment for the staff was critically important to me. And I knew that I would need capital to further that dream … a whole lot more capital than I was capable of earning as a salaried chef working for a big corporation.

My Dad’s Entrepreneurial Gene Kicked In (Once Again)

I first heard about network marketing back in 1996 and the business model flat out made perfect sense to me – get paid to recommend great products to other people and teach them how to get their own products for free. Do that with enough people and quickly earn a full time, leveraged passive income.

It didn’t quite work out that way for me. I didn’t have enough time to actually tell lots of people about the great products I had found. However, the gals at work loved the products I would bring in with me. They bought them and told some of their friends who bought some products too. My products ended up being free for years as a result of those tiny transactions. Not life changing income for sure, but it proved to me that the business model worked really well.

In 2006 my Mom got really sick. She had to have major surgery twice and she needed to have help while she was recuperating. I was just finishing up a consulting gig in NYC. So, I went back to my Mom’s house to care for her. I needed to earn an income while I was doing that and taking on outside work really wasn’t an option.

I started scouring the internet for a good “work from home” option. And within a few weeks I found a top tier direct sales business that really appealed to me. I checked out the company, the woman who was to become my sponsor, the systems, support and training the company provided and made the decision to invest into the business. I knew that I could easily do this while caring for my Mom.

I did everything that I was told to do. And I became increasingly more frustrated and disappointed when everything I was doing yielded nothing but failure after failure. My sponsor kept on telling me to keep on doing more of what I was already doing, “Do it enough and you will get the results that you want! This is a numbers game and each person has to work through their own set of numbers!”

It took me 5 months to get qualified to start earning commissions from the sales that I made. During the next 3 months I was able to build a small team and everyone was having a hard time getting qualified. It was very frustrating for both me and them. Since the product could be used by retail business owners as an incentive for their customers to do business with them, I started selling the product to local business owners. Finally, I started seeing some real success. My team members followed my lead and they started seeing results as well. However, that was short-lived.

The business owners started calling me to tell me that their customers were having a very hard time getting their incentives fulfilled and were really disappointed and angry, which of course made my clients really angry. My team members were experiencing the same thing. I made the decision to refund every sale that I had made because of the product issues. Thankfully I separated from that company before it was shut down by the FTC. By this time, my Mom had recuperated well enough to send me back home to NYC.

Taking Stock and Regrouping

After taking a really hard look at my finances,  I realized that I had spent so much money building that business, I was seriously in debt again. First things first … I went back to the basics. I took on a kitchen consulting gig because it paid well and would allow me to pay down my credit cards. I needed to get some financial stability back into my life. I also decided that my time working in someone else’s kitchen was going to be a short lived as possible…

I knew at a gut-level that the internet and network marketing would my exit strategy. I just needed to learn HOW to make it work for me. I also knew that I needed to take my time and find the right company to partner up with. For almost two years I was a Pro Chef by day and an internet networking marketing Apprentice by night.

I found alot of “experts” along the way. I took my time studied what they were doing. I did the things that they taught for free first. And when things worked, I bought their training information. I invested a great deal of money on training. Some of it was good, some of it was great and most of it was pure and utter garbage. But, I was determined to learn how to do things right … so I persisted.

I finally sifted and sorted through enough “experts”, “coaches” and “gurus” to find and get real training from some of the best direct response marketers online today.  That’s when things started taking off for me. It is also when the kitchen I was working in went out of business.

The Internet Is A Power Tool

I started blogging and was very quickly recognized as a top MLM / Network Marketing Blogger. I have been able to connect with people around the world who want to learn how to use a blog to create an online presence for themselves.

Now I teach people how to blog effectively and they get great results.  I wrote my first e-Book which has gotten rave reviews and has been downloaded over 500 times. Because of blogging, I was FINALLY introduced to a company that I am proud to be associated with and I am building that business as I type. But, it doesn’t stop there.

When I finally understood that building a successful, long term online business is all about building high quality relationships with people that choose to become part of my “Tribe”,  people that love what I am doing and want more information … I branched out into the popular social networks.

I simply started speaking with other people that are passionate about the same things that I am. People that like what they hear from me find their way to this blog and get a chance to know me really well before they ever speak with me live. Most of them choose to subscribe to my e-mail newsletter. And when we finally do connect through e-mail or on the phone, the conversation is friendly, easy and relaxed … just like speaking with an old friend.

People like to do business with people they know, like and trust.

My Vision For The World

Understanding and taking the time to learn about the deep connection between mindset, marketing and prosperity has made all the difference in my results. And that is what I specialize in teaching; a simple recipe for playing a powerful inner game and doing the things that produce tangible, real world results.

Too many people are living with so much worry and fear they are unable to see their own AWESOMENESS and are settling for unfulfilling relationships, doing work that they really don’t like, working for people that simply do not appreciate them, spending too little time with their spouses and kids, living in never-ending stress that is killing them, seeing too much month at the end of their money. People the world over are living lives of quiet desperation, held prisoner in cages of their own making. And I know that is not what our Creator intends for any of us.

I have a burning desire to see as many people as possible choose to be free – free to live life on their terms. Doing what they love to do, on a schedule that works for their lifestyle, earning the kind of money that frees them and their loved ones from the shackles of debt and wage slavery, empowering them to live passionate lives filled with happiness, health and love, being of real service to the rest of world. EVERYONE is filled with amazing potential and power. And THAT is what I see in everyone.

People are so much more powerful than they believe themselves to be. Everything starts with the thoughts that we think. Those thoughts create feelings that we act upon. Those actions give us the results that we see every day in our lives. What most people don’t realize is that they have the ability to change their thoughts in a nano-second.

So I am on a mission to stir this big pot of boiling, broken, business as usual, mediocrity from the bottom up. The only way this uncertain, fear-filled world can transform into a world filled with peace, love and prosperity is for people to consciously choose real freedom for themselves.
