Thought I would share this little story that I read about Pablo Picasso a long time ago…
A French woman saw Pablo Picasso enjoying a cup of coffee in a Parisian restaurant took it upon herself to approach the great master and insisted that he put down his coffee and make a quick sketch of her…
He very graciously obliged her. When he was done…she took the drawing and slipped it carefully into her handbag.
She removed her billfold and asked him ….
“How much do I owe you…???”
Picasso replied….
“$5,000 American dollars”
“$5,000 DOLLARS,” she echoed back at him STUNNED…
“But…it ONLY took you THREE MINUTES to do the sketch !!!!” she sputtered….
Picasso responded…
“No madame… It did NOT…. It took me ALL OF MY LIFE !!!”
This is a lesson that I learned the HARD WAY !!!
NEVER undervalue the LIFETIME of EXPERIENCE YOU bring to the transaction !!!
I hope YOU get the point….
I think people often forget how long we as marketers had to work for free doing research, buying courses etc getting into the position where we can help people. This post is a good reminder of that fact.
Rose,
This post should be required reading for anyone who has trouble understanding the price tag that is associated with truly superior mentoring. It takes years, even decades, of study and dedication to become a master or mistress of our craft, and to assist others from that place of knowledge and experience. You get what you pay for.

Wow. I had to stop for half a second there to figure it out. What a powerful little story.

Who can put a price tag on all the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into gaining and learning from experience. Who needs a lecture when a simple and short story is all it takes to make the point. I can see a kitchen analogy to this “little” gem you're sharing here: some of the best and most nourishing dishes… like chicken soup… start with a simple recipe.
Hi Joyce …I LOVE that story !! The first time I heard it I had to stop and really think about what it meant as well. Those really are the best kind of stories…they make us think !! I will see if I can remember a couple more and share them with everyone !!
I LOVE that you got the message …. simple really is best. Once someone has the basics under their belt…then anything is possible…!!! But…the basics provide the foundation … !!!
