A very dear friend of mine recently lost her job with insurance giant, AIG … no real surprise there.

AIG has been laying off people left and right for months now. They have been restructuring and closing branch offices all over the place.

What IS sad about this scenario… is that my friend is 70 years old … she is still working … and in order to keep up with the escalating prices for everything … her “retirement” savings are being tapped into. She needs to keep on working because the amount of money that Social Security will pay her won’t even cover her mortgage and real estate tax expenses.

So … she is out looking for a job … brushing up her skills … rewriting her resume … and is looking for a job that will pay her $35,ooo a year …. she is willing to go back to work in a production camp and be counted as one of the slaves of the work-force in the Prison named HOPE THE ECONOMY RECOVERS…

She is a willing participant in the 401K (or is it the 101K … I forget) slave trade….

“Work is only work when you wish you were somewhere else…”

She is one of  those who is educated beyond their ability to earn what she is worth by working for the cleverly disguised “Wolves In Sheeples Clothing” ….

She says she is too old to break out of the “get a great education (she graduated from Gibbs a long time ago) and get a good job that you can retire with” voluntary corporate slavery paradigm.

The Wolves ate her for lunch … they devoured her dreams … they had her HOPE for dessert ….

all the while they were smiling and telling her she was too slow … that she was too nit-picky … that she didn’t have the right combination of skills and technical know-how and that UNLESS she could improve her performance to met their standards in 30 days ….

PINK-SLIP time at the production camp….

I KNOW how this feels …

I KNOW what it is like to be barely tolerated …. and NEVER celebrated

I KNOW what it is like to be paid pennies on the amount of income I generated FOR SOMEONE ELSE…

I KNOW what it is like to work like a mule, only to find out that SOMEONE ELSE can take that work away any time they wish…

and…

I KNOW how frightening CHALLENGING AND CHANGING that old broken paradigm is …

BUT….

THERE … IS … A … BETTER …WAY…

HOWEVER …

THERE … IS … A … PRICE … THAT … MUST … BE … PAID …

AND …

This is where most people FAIL THEMSELVES …

Each slave is allowed to BUY their way out and EACH slave is allowed to BUY his or her freedom.

The price is TIME and IN-ERGY and an INVESTMENT into SELF… versus a life exchanged for another man’s dream.

The cost is NOT too high, yet it does seem like TOO MUCH money for those without the courage to pay the price.

The PRICE is … You must be able to become your own master.

Most PEOPLE cannot fathom the thought.

Most slaves decide that’s TOO BIG of a price. But that’s the price.

Until someone willfully decides to MASTER SELF … they are a SLAVE…

Until one decides to discipline themselves and to learn the TRADE of inspiration, ambition and increase … they are a sheeple at the mercy of the wolves…

It takes guts, spine, time and ambition….

And once you have MASTERED SELF… and YOU ARE FREE …

You have the PRIVILEGE  of  TEACHING OTHERS how to do the SAME  for THEMSELVES …

You will be challenged beyond belief …

You will have to get comfortable BE-ing uncomfortable …

You will have to learn to BLESS YOUR MESS…

So that your MESS becomes the MESS-age you tell others …

As Seth Godin said in “Tribes” …

People don’t believe what you tell them. They rarely believe what you show them. They often believe what their friends tell them. They always believe what they tell themselves. What leaders do: they give people stories they can tell themselves. Stories about the future and about change.

And that is what LEADERSHIP in the NEW ECONOMY is all about …  from Seth Godin’s “Tribes”

Leaders challenge the status quo.
Leaders create a culture around their goal and involve others in that culture.
Leaders have an extraordinary amount of curiosity about the world they’re trying to change.
Leaders use charisma (in a variety of forms) to attract and motivate followers.
Leaders communicate their vision of the future.
Leaders commit to a vision and make decisions based on that commitment.
Leaders connect their followers to one another.
