But what does it really mean…???

The Wikipedia defines a “Jack of All Trades – Master of None” as a person that is competent with many skills but is not outstanding in any particular one.

When I read that definition … the first thought that popped into my mind was … “competent generalist”

Why does that sound so not attractive…???

The message I hear in those words is…

The more varied your interests … the more diverse your skills … the less authority and skill you have in those areas…

And … if you’re a generalist … you are not skilled enough to have mastered a certain topic or skill set …

You know enough to maybe just get by… and just getting by is NOT efficient … or productive in the long run…

When I take that thought and expand it to the world of network marketing … information marketing … internet marketing … building a home based business …

What comes to mind immediately are  couple of questions that I hear from lots of folks just  getting started with internet network marketing or that have been doing everything that they have been told to do and are STILL not getting results …

“Where do I start …???” …. “What do I do first…???”

Followed by…..

“There is so much stuff to do …. so many things to learn …”

“There is way too much information out there…”

“Who can I trust to help me figure all of this out…???”

Words of Wisdom from  MY teachers that have been HAMMERED indelibly into MY BRAIN….

There are only three things that matter when it come to building a business ~ online or offline…it doesn’t matter

  1. Build a database (or rolodex file) of highly targeted prospects
  2. Establish a GREAT RELATIONSHIP with that database by HELPING THEM
  3. Turn the PEOPLE in your database into RAVING REPEAT CUSTOMERS

EVERYTHING ELSE  is SECONDARY !!!

Technology will ALWAYS change…

  • Remember MySpace…???  3-4 years ago it was HOT…HOT…HOT…  – Today…DEAD…DEAD…DEAD…
  • SEO … Rankings can disappear overnight if Google changes its algorithms…
  • YouTube … Accounts can get SHUT DOWN if marketing isn’t done correctly…
  • Ever hear of the Google Slap…??? Recently a LOT of people had their accounts closed and have been BANNED for LIFE because they weren’t using AdWords the way Google wants Adwords to be used….
  • Advertising in the newspapers ISN’T as effective as it used to be
  • Buying leads can be VERY RISKY if you don’t know the source

People Seldom Change … Human Beings are HARDWIRED a certain way and have been since Adam and Eve…

  • Take the time to find out if there really is a market for what you’ve got … (Can’t sell steak to a vegetarian)
  • Get to know your perfect customer BEFORE you do any kind of marketing (You are NOT selling what you THINK you are selling !!!)
  • Find out what their problems REALLY are
  • Psychotically focus on getting your SOLUTION in front of those people as often as possible…
  • Build a GREAT relationship with those folks by helping them get their problems solved right from the start…
  • Consciously maintain that relationship …  allowing those people to fall in love with you… so that YOU are the only person they could even think of doing business with and they recommend you to THEIR friends, acquaintances and colleagues… (Think ZEALOUS UNPAID sales force)

With all that being said …

Understand that it is NORMAL to feel overwhelmed by the learning curve and  all the “to do’s” that have to be got to be done… especially in the early stages of building a business and as part of  developing mastery of  something new.  And it is REALLY HARD to do this effectively when you are in the “information overload” zone.

But…it is important to take some time and refocus on the BIG picture which is …

Your business exists to exactly one thing and that is to make you money …

And that requires only two things …

Having something that people will buy and finding the right people to sell it to !!!

In order to develop “list building mastery”…

Start with just ONE strategy ….

Something that you are already good at … or that totally turns you on and you are willing to FOCUS ON and invest the time to master ….

Once that strategy is mastered …

Then it is time learn another while continuing to build on the first…

There are thousands of ways to build a list … and that is why so many people get STUCK …

They are trying to learn how to do too many things at the same time … and they never really get good at any one thing…

I know all about this … I was a “Jackie of All…Mistress of NONE” and it got me ZERO results…

When I stopped all the “I have to do EVERYTHING” craziness … and figured out what I am really good at and I like to do… things CHANGED…

I found people that were already doing what I wanted to do…

And  learned how to do it the right way from them !!!

I will touch on the OTHER MUST HAVE SKILL that you need tomorrow !!
